Mar 20, 2014 • the first metro ride

here's a snippet from ottavio's very first ride in the metro. the wonderment looks familiar.. in 1967 my own maiden trip through the montréal underground was with my dad to expo67. the metro was new-fangled in those days and quite a spectacle through the eyes of an 8 year old. the scent of burnt cherry wood (used for the metro's brake shoes) was more pervasive then but whenever i do catch a sniff of it now, it brings back very fond memories of that day.
with the reverie of those shiny racing-striped blue cars still reeling in my head, re-surfacing on île ste helène that morning was a complete sensory overload. it was as if being transported into the future.

in keeping with the autumnal theme, here's a few snippets from an excursion to mont st. hilaire (gault nature reserve). the area has great getaway qualities and is very close to montréal (though i would highly recommend a weekday visit for a bit more of a wilderness experience).
